From Mátrafüred the ruins of the castle preserved from its heyday are a brilliant destination. Let’s besiege it!
Benevár can be reached from Mátrafüred alongside the blue + symbol which is short but goes upward. The castle is presumed to have been built on the crag between Kalló and Csatorna brooks at the end of the 12th century as the coins of Béla III would suggest that were found in the layers of construction. For long ‘castrum Bene’ mentioned by the charters belonged to the Csobánka family. Later during the reign of Róbert Károly it lost a lot of its former power and finally in the 15th century it became unpopulated. The remains of the former palace were found by the archaeologists together with a cistern. The ruined castle is open to visitors.
